RescuesForJoJo came to be for one main reason, my dog Joe. He was rescued from the shelter in 1999 at 9 months old. For the next 15 years he was the one constant in my life. He was my best friend. He loved me unconditionally; fat or thin, ugly or pretty, good or bad, he was always there for me.
I started RescueForJoJo officially in July 2015 and took my sister, Becky, on as partner in August. Becky has played a crucial role in helping the rescue obtain its 501c3. She maintains all our records and keeps everything organized. She is my glue. Together with the help of our partner and friend, Wendy Cobb, we have successfully rescued almost 70 dogs since July 2015.
I lost Joe to congestive heart failure October 7, 2015. It was the worst day of my life. Sometimes, rescue is hard. There are many days that I am heartbroken for the dogs we aren't able to save. But I will never stop. This is his legacy, and the one way I can honor him for his pure and loving heart, and love those shelter dogs the way he loved me, wide open and with no reservations.
